Neutron reflectivity (NR) is used to probe the solid, liquid, vapor interface of a porous superhydrophobic (SH) surface submerged in water. A low-temperature, low-pressure technique was used to prepare a rough, highly porous organosilica aerogel-like film. UV/ozone treatments were used to control the surface coverage of hydrophobic organic ligands on the silica framework, allowing the contact angle with water to be continuously varied over the range of 160 degrees (superhydrophobic) to <10 degrees (hydrophilic). NR shows that the superhydrophobic nature of the surface prevents infiltration of water into the porous film. Atomic force microscopy and density functional theory simulations are used in combination to interpret the NR results and help establish the location, width, and nature of the SH film-water interface.  相似文献

The preparations and spectroscopic characterisation of the hydrolytically unstable As(III) complexes, [AsF(3)(OPR(3))(2)] (R = Me or Ph) and [AsF(3){Me(2)P(O)CH(2)P(O)Me(2)}] are described and represent the first examples of complexes of AsF(3) with neutral ligands. The crystal structure of [AsF(3){Me(2)P(O)CH(2)P(O)Me(2)}] contains dimers with bridging diphosphine dioxide, but there are also long contacts between the dimers to neighbouring phosphine oxide groups, completing a very distorted six-coordination at arsenic and producing a weakly associated polymer structure. The reaction of AsF(3) with OAsPh(3) affords Ph(3)AsF(2), and no arsine oxide complex was formed. Reaction of SbF(3) with OER(3) (R = Me or Ph, E = P or As), Me(2)P(O)CH(2)P(O)Me(2) and Ph(2)P(O)(CH(2))(n)P(O)Ph(2) (n = 1 or 2) in MeOH produces [SbF(3)(OER(3))(2)], [SbF(3){Me(2)P(O)CH(2)P(O)Me(2)}] and [SbF(3){Ph(2)P(O)(CH(2))(n)P(O)Ph(2)}] respectively. The X-ray structures reveal that the complexes contain square pyramidal SbF(3)O(2) cores with apical F and cis disposed pnictogen oxides. However, whilst [SbF(3)(OER(3))(2)] (R = Ph: E = P or As; R = Me: E = As) and [SbF(3){Ph(2)P(O)CH(2)P(O)Ph(2)}] are monomeric, [SbF(3){Me(2)P(O)CH(2)P(O)Me(2)}] is a dimer with bridging diphosphine dioxides producing a twelve-membered ring, and [SbF(3){Ph(2)P(O)(CH(2))(2)P(O)Ph(2)}] is a chain polymer with diphosphine dioxide bridges. In the OAsR(3) reactions with SbF(3), R(3)AsF(2) are also formed. Notably the Sb-O(P) bonds are shorter than As-O(P), despite the covalent radii (As < Sb), consistent with very weak coordination of the AsF(3). IR and multinuclear ((1)H, (19)F and (31)P) NMR data are reported and discussed. BiF(3) does not react with pnictogen oxide ligands under similar conditions and halide exchange of bismuth chloro complexes with Me(3)SnF gave BiF(3).  相似文献

A new tetradentate dihydrogen perchlorate macrocyclic ligand (2,4,9,11-tetraphenyl-1,5,8,12-tetraazacyclotetradeca-1,4,8,11-tetraene dihydrogen perchlorate) was prepared and characterised. The macrocycle behaves as a selective chelating ion-exchanger for some metal ions. The polystyrene-based membrane electrode is found to exhibit quite promising selectivity for Cr3+ ions. It can be used to estimate chromium concentrations in the range 3.16x 10(-6)-1.00x10(-1) M with a near-Nernstian slope of 17.5 mV per decade of concentration between pH 3.0 to 6.5. The electrode is found to possess a fast response time of 15 s and was used over a period of three months with good reproducibility (s = +/- 0.3 mV). The selectivity coefficient values for mono-, di- and trivalent cations indicate excellent selectivity for Cr3+ ions over a large number of other cations. Anions such as Cl- and SO4(2-) do not interfere and the electrode also works satisfactorily in a mixed organic-water solution. The sensor has been used as an indicator electrode for the potentiometric titration of Cr3+ with EDTA. The practical utility of the membrane sensor has also been demonstrated in solutions contaminated with detergents (CTAB and SDS). Above all, the membrane sensor has been very successfully used to determine Cr3+ in some foods.  相似文献

Reaction of 1-hydroxypyridine-2-thione (HpyOS) in CHCl3 with Ag2CO3 suspended in CHCl3 under magnetic stirring followed by addition of PPh3 yields a product of stoichiometry: Ag(pyOS)(PPh3). The compound adopts a dimeric structure [Ag(pyOS)(PPh3)]2 (1) where each Ag atom acquires a distorted tetrahedral geometry by co-ordinating to one oxygen, two sulphur and one phosphorus atoms. The Ag2S2 core forms a parallelogram [Ag—S 2.507(1), 2.822(1)Å] with Ag—S—Ag and S—Ag—S angles of 74.8(1) and 105.2(1)°, respectively.  相似文献

A copolymer system of 2‐aminoethyl methacrylate and N‐isopropylacrylamide comprises novel properties: changes in conformation and hydrophilicity upon heating influence the antibacterial activity and result in a switchable biocidal effect. The copolymers are characterized via NMR, MALDI‐ToF MS, phase transition behavior, and antibacterial tests with E. coli or B. subtilis. MIC and MBC are determined using standard dilution methods, temperature‐dependence via incubation at different temperatures and cytotoxicity by MTT tests. The copolymers exhibit lower MIC in globule than coil conformation, crosslinking on cotton results in non‐leaching materials with better antibacterial activity above than below the phase‐transition point.

A study of the normal modes of vibration and their dispersion in polypyrrole (PPY) based on the Urey-Bradley force field is reported. It gives a fuller interpretation of previously reported FTIR spectra. Characterstic features of dispersion curves, such as regions of high density-of-states, repulsion, and character mixing of dispersive modes, are discussed. This review focuses on polymers with upper critical solution temperature (UCST) in water or electrolyte solution and provides a detailed survey of the yet few existing examples. A guide for synthetic chemists for the design of novel UCST polymers is presented and possible handles to tune the phase transition temperature, sharpness of transition, hysteresis, and effectiveness of phase separation are discussed. This review tries to answer the question why polymers with UCST remained largely underrepresented in academic as well as applied research and what requirements have to be fulfilled to make these polymers suitable for the development of smart materials with a positive thermoresponse.  相似文献

The first example of phantom ring‐closing condensation polymerization for the synthesis of oligoguanidines is presented. A new oligoguanidine with a ring structure was achieved in one step by the condensation reaction of a triamine, like diethylenetriamine, with guanidine hydrochloride. The condensation reaction proceeded by selective ring‐closure towards the formation of five‐membered rings in the oligomer backbone. The resulting polymer repeat unit structure was different from the starting monomers (phantom polymer) and was formed by elimination of three molecules of ammonia per repeat unit. The inter‐, intra‐, and inter‐molecular reaction sequences led to the new structure as proved by different spectroscopic techniques (atmospheric pressure chemical‐ionization mass spectrometry, and one‐dimensional and two‐dimensional homo‐ and heteronuclear correlation NMR experiments) as well as supported by quantum chemical investigations. Preliminary results regarding antibacterial use of the resulting oligoguanidine were also promising and showed its effect within 15–30 min as an antibacterial material.

Reactions of InCl3 with potassium salts of bifunctional tridentate (L1H2HOC6H4CH NCH2CHMeOH) and monofunctional bidentate (L2HHOC6H4CHN-i-Bu) Schiff bases in 1:1 and 1:2 molar ratio in benzene afford complexes In(L1)Cl and In(L2)2Cl, respectively. On reaction with potassium isopropoxymetallates KB(O-i-Pr)4, KAl(O-i-Pr)4, KTi(O-i-Pr)5, and KNb(O-i-Pr)6, they produce interes- ting heterobimetallic heterocyclic complexes. These are characterized by elemental (N, B, Al, Ti, and Nb) analyses, molecular weight measurements, and spectral [IR, NMR (1H, 13C, 11B, and 27Al)] studies.
